Spiritual Growth Towards Christ: Daily Habits
- March 28, 2025
It's a Lifestyle
Hey there! I’ve learned that being a disciple means constantly learning, growing, and building a relationship with God. I’ve found that a few key habits have really made a difference in my life: Prayer, Journaling, Church, Bible Study, and Affirmations. These aren’t just routines for me—they’re moments that bring peace and purpose to even the craziest days. So without further delay, let’s jump in!
1. Prayer
Morning Prayer: When I wake up, instead of reaching for my phone, I pause to ask God for guidance and protection for the day ahead. It’s like starting the day with a personal pep talk from the One who truly cares. (Psalm 5:3 has that vibe, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice…”)
I’m not saying it’s easy. It took a while for me to find the right schedule. Trial and error. If at first you don’t succeed. Sixth times a charm! You get the point. So don’t get discouraged. This one isn’t just a suggestion. I know it’s vital if you want to grow and succeed.
Evening Prayer: At night, I take a moment to unwind—thank God for the day, ask for forgiveness where I fell short, and let go of any lingering worries. It helps me reset for tomorrow.
Once again this one isn’t a suggestion. Please understand that starting and ending your day with God will truly change so many things. Instead of worrying about your day and stressing about stuff you’ll have the peace and comfort. I truly believe everybody who has or wants a relationship with Christ needs these two habits in their lives.
Keep it real: Not every prayer is a list of requests. Sometimes I’m just chatting with God about whatever’s going on—whether that’s a silly moment or just sharing how I felt. It’s all about keeping that connection genuine.
I remember one prayer was pretty random. It involved some baby chicks, flowers, a VPN, blog posts, Grammarly, and more random stuff. A good mixture between random, serious, and enjoyment. I enjoy spending time with God. So I talk about any and everything until I run out of stuff to say. Just be yourself.
2. Journaling
For me, writing things down is more than just doodling words—it’s a way to slow down and really think about what’s happening in my life. I cannot stress enough how important this habit is. And I’ll bring it up often. Just so you don’t forget!
A Place for It All: With so many thoughts bouncing around in my head, journaling helps me sort through them. I use it for prayers, random ideas, reflections, and even those messy emotions. It’s like talking through your day on paper.
Staying Organized (Sort of): Sometimes I end up with a few too many notebooks, and a thought here or there gets lost, but that’s okay. It’s the act of writing that matters—a little bit of written conversation with God goes a long way.
I still have no clue where that really important idea went. Can’t remember what it was, that’s why I wrote it. But I remember being excited about it and writing it down so I wouldn’t forget it during the next thought bombardment. Yeah, it’s somewhere. I do, however, remember using a dark pinkish red gel pen to write it. Still hunting for it! I’ll tell you when I find it.
3. Church and Fellowship
Okay, let’s be honest—sometimes church can feel a bit intimidating, or you might have had some less-than-amazing experiences. But real connection with other believers is super important. That’s coming from a person who only leaves he house for work and church. And I work with children so I really don’t interact with adults often.
Join In: Finding a community that feels right can be a mission by itself. When you do, don’t just show up and sit quietly—dive in! Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us to encourage and build each other up.
Learn from Others: Hanging out with mature Christians can open your eyes to insights you might never get on your own. It’s like having a supportive crew where everyone’s got something to share.
I’m literally a baby disciple. so there’s not much I have the answers to on my own. I can hunt, but these old people in our lives have ALREADY been through it! No need to do heavy lifting or go through the struggle. Even so, don’t trust everything people tell you. Do your research and ask God. He’d never lie to you.
4. Bible Study
God’s Word is like the ultimate life guide. Sure, some parts can be a snooze (looking at you, endless family trees!), but every bit has a purpose. Even if it’s a cure to insomnia.
Diving In Daily: Even if it’s just a chapter a day, reading the Bible helps me connect the dots—seeing God’s hand in both the big stories and the little lessons. It’s also quite interesting.
I’ve never felt so angry at a group of people (Isrealites), annoyed at how awful a guy can be (Jacob), or empathetic for a guy (Pharaoh). So don’t knock it until you try it. Those were just in the first five books. There’s sixty-six!
It All Adds Up: The stories, lessons, and even the weird rules all point toward deeper truths about life and how God works with us. It’s about capturing the essence of His guidance for everyday living.
For real some of those rules and laws in the Old Testament were weirdly specifi. Funny to. “Suppose your bull fell into a hole dug up by another man…”
5. Affirmations
Affirmations aren’t just trendy buzzwords—they’re declarations of faith. Instead of just asking, I now boldly declare what I know God will do in my life.
Speaking With Confidence: Using phrases like “I will…” or “I know…” reinforces my belief in God’s promises. Mark 11:24 reminds me that if I truly believe, what I ask for will come to pass.
Building Trust: These positive affirmations change the internal dialogue from doubt to trust, making my faith even stronger.
You’ll see the difference in your life almost instantly. It’s a bit weird at first, but be demanding. Just have pure intentions with your demands. You can’t fool God. He’s literally God. He knows what’s in your heart.
Wrapping It Up
For me, these five practices—prayer, journaling, church, Bible study, and affirmations—aren’t just tasks on a list. They’re the moments where I connect with God, reflect on my day, and gear up for tomorrow. They turn everyday moments into opportunities for growth and a deeper relationship with the One who truly makes a difference.
So next time you’re rushing through your day, try setting aside a few moments for these habits. Who knows? They might just become your lifeline, too.
